Why Nancy?

Love for my hometown plus the experience to meet our objectives = qualifications with passion.


Community leadership has always been my thing.  Now, after decades of work and leadership experience, I can bring both to advocate for Bronte as your representative.


A bit about me: 

My family's story in Canada starts in 1898 with a trans-Atlantic journey from Europe. Seeking refuge from war and chasing economic opportunity my grandparents expected nothing but the chance to work hard and live peacefully. I hold deep gratitude for their sacrifices — they built the foundation of every opportunity I've had. My parents chose Bronte in the 1960's as the halfway point between Hamilton and Toronto where friends and family had settled. Decades later, Peter and I chose to raise our family here as well. Bronte is a truly special community and I am running to ensure future generations enjoy that same experience.


Below are examples of how I have used my skills to make a real impact in both my career and volunteer lives.

Experienced

I studied to be a high school history/ geography teacher, but took those skills and adapted them to improve organizations. My career spans customer experience, operations, urban design, policy development, marketing, capital projects delivery and corporate training:


  • Career experience in the private sector as well as municipal, provincial, and federal governments.


  • Projects with Department of Justice, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Education, National Research Council and many more!


  • Responsible for budgets of up to $45M in operations/revenue generation and $200M in capital projects


  • Sponsored capital projects and major infrastructure


  • President of two Condo Boards, one being "The Lighthouse" at Marine Dr. and East St.  


  • Chaired the Town Advisory Committee for Transit 2008 - 2011

Passionate

I came from a family of volunteers: we were community minded, no matter which community that happened to be! 


  • Oakville Waterfront Festival volunteer and Executive Member


  • Volunteer with Oakville Multicultural Council, Oakville BIA, Jazz Festival and Oakville Little League baseball coaching support


  • Founding Family, choir member, and musical accompaniment at Holy Trinity Church. Music Instructor Croatian Folklore Ensemble "Prelo"


  • TA Blakelock, Ontario Secondary School Students Association and Trent University Senate elected to leadership roles


  • Former member Bronte Harbour Yacht Club and avid paddler who loves exploring our creeks and waterfront


  • Invited Speaker at Professional Conferences across Canada, Europe and US for Customer Experience, Sustainability and Organizational Development


  • Contributing Author for the Customer Experience Professionals Association: CX Book of Knowledge

Real Results

Looking back on my career, the most rewarding projects were often the most challenging. A few achievements I’m particularly proud of: 


  • Developed a 40-point set of recommendations for the Town Planning Department with the Sunset North Redevelopment Group, advocating for transparency on development applications


  • Criminal Code of Canada: Initiated a national committee to change the Criminal Code of Canada to protect frontline transit staff while in the line of duty providing transit services.


  • Women in Trades/Transit: Partnered with the Min of Ed and MTO to support girls entering trades.


  • GenZ and Public Transit: Sponsored research to understand GenZ needs and improved trust and brand loyalty.


  • Disney Leadership Model:  Built a public-sector version of this program using the wisdom of Disney to increase employee engagement a the City of Mississauga. 


  • Fuel Efficient Driver Training: Trained 80+ transit systems across the country to operate transit vehicles more efficiently to save fuel and reduce carbon emissions.
